About CalorieBurn
CalorieBurn exists because exercise calories are the most overestimated number in fitness.
Treadmills, watches, and apps compete to flatter: a 45-minute "burn" on a machine display routinely exceeds what the same person would measure in a laboratory by 20–40%. The honest method is the one exercise scientists use — the Compendium of Physical Activities, a catalog of MET values from five decades of measured research.
Our calculators implement that catalog: pick an activity, enter your weight and duration, and get the estimate scientists would defend — plus the corrections machines skip (net vs gross burn, machine optimism, effort honesty).
We are educators, not equipment or supplement sellers. Nothing here has a calorie target to sell you, and your numbers never leave your browser.
What makes CalorieBurn different
- Your numbers never leave your browser. Every calculator on CalorieBurn runs entirely on your device. We never see, store, or transmit the figures you enter — there are no accounts and no server-side processing of your inputs.
- Published methodology. Each calculator page explains the exact formula it uses and the assumptions behind it, so you can check our work or reproduce it in a spreadsheet.
- Free, forever, without a paywall. CalorieBurn is supported by advertising. There is no premium tier, no email gate, and no upsell.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any government agency, lender, insurer, or the organizations whose formulas and public data we reference (such as the Compendium of Physical Activities (Ainsworth et al.)).
